THE KELVIN, BELFAST — A Celebration of Innovation

What began as a simple conversation about creating a few pieces of artwork for some offices turned into an incredible project — one that challenged me creatively and pushed me to rethink how I approach my work. In the end, we created around 80 individual pieces, a collection of pencil and ink drawings, alongside ceramic elements, all nodding towards innovation, and of course Lord Kelvin.

It all starts with an idea — then comes a touch of pen, pencil, clay, gold leaf, aluminium, paper, and print. Our collaboration with Robert and the team at Formation Works for The Kelvin, Belfast was something truly special. Their vision set the bar high in every aspect, from design to detail. The result is a shared workspace in the heart of Belfast that radiates quality, craftsmanship, and creativity. The theme throughout was one of innovation, excellence, and a celebration of homegrown talent — inspired by some of the north’s greatest minds.

From Lord Kelvin, Belfast’s own pioneering inventor, to Heaney, Ferguson, O’Neill, Gray, Pantridge and French — each a shining example of creativity through science, art, design, and thought. Below are some of the pieces we created, each inspired by these great innovators from the north of Ireland. What an honour it was to be part of such an inspiring project.
