Bantry Bay, County Cork. Bantry is a town on the coast of west county Cork, Ireland. It lies at the head of Bantry Bay, a deep-water gulf extending for 19miles to the west. As with many areas on Ireland’s south-west coast, Bantry has an ancient connection to the sixth century saint BreandÃÂn (Naomh Brøanainn) the Navigator. In Irish lore Saint BreandÃÂn was the first person to discover America. A statue dedicated to him is placed central to the town facing the Bay, ocean and America beyond. This beautiful wee town is integral to any tour around Cork and Kerry where much of IrelandÂ??s wondrous landscapes exist.
